Session 7 of 9

Processing a Prophetic Word

Weighing, stewarding, and treasuring what God gives.

Session 7

Processing a Prophetic Word

“Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:20–21 (ESV)
“Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said.” — 1 Corinthians 14:29 (ESV)
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.” — 1 John 4:1–2 (ESV)

A prophetic word, properly received and stewarded, is a treasure. Prophecy should not be despised — it should be treasured, especially after it has been judged and accepted as a word from God.

Seeing Yourself the Way God Sees You

Look at the words you have been given over time. What is the common thread? Summarise those words into sentences. Combine them with dream interpretations and the Scriptures He has given you. This is what God is saying over you. This is the way He sees you. These are things you can hold onto.

How to Judge a Prophetic Word

  • Does it align with Scripture and the heart of God?
  • Is it encouraging and comforting? Does it build up, give vision or hope?
  • Does it resonate with your spirit? Are you able to identify with it?
  • Does it point to Jesus, and will it bring Him honour and glory?

The Test of Fruit

“You will recognise them by their fruits… every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.” — Matthew 7:16–17 (ESV)

Over time, watch the fruit. Both in the words themselves and in the lives of those who speak them. Genuine prophecy bears genuine fruit. False voices simply do not produce lasting fruit. True ones do.

A Berean Heart — People Who Weigh Things

“Now these Jews were more noble… they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” — Acts 17:11 (ESV)

Eagerness without testing is gullibility. Testing without eagerness is cynicism. The Bereans modelled both. If we cultivate Berean hearts, the prophetic flows more freely and more safely.

What You Do with the Word

We are responsible for what we do with the words we receive. Some call us to action. Some call us to wait. Some call us to pray. Some are simply to treasure.

When Paul received the word through Agabus that he would be bound in Jerusalem, it did not stop him going — he knew that was his calling. The word simply prepared him for the journey (Acts 21:10–14). We are responsible for what God has called us to do — including the words and advice we receive from those closest to us.

Practical Tips

  • Keep a journal. Write or record prophetic words. Patterns, themes and confirmations emerge over time.
  • Don’t rush. Don’t force fulfilment. Trust God’s timing. “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage.” (Psalm 27:14)
  • Submit significant words to leaders or trusted mentors for guidance and alignment.
  • Honour the word. Once received and accepted, treat it as a treasure. Pray over it regularly.

Five-Day Reading Plan

This plan follows Session 7 — weighing, stewarding and treasuring what God gives. Each day pairs scriptures cited in the teaching with passages that deepen the same theme.

From the session referenced in the teaching  ·  Suggested added to deepen the theme

Day 1 Test Everything

Prophecy is not despised, but weighed.

Day 2 A Berean Heart

Eagerness and testing held together.

Day 3 The Test of Fruit

Genuine prophecy bears genuine fruit over time.

Day 4 Seeing Yourself as God Sees You

Gather the words; find the common thread.

Day 5 Stewarding the Word

Some words call us to act, some to wait, some to treasure.

A Daily Rhythm

Read the passage unhurried. Then sit quietly, let the noise of the world settle, and journal anything that comes — a word, a picture, an impression — and date it. Over weeks and months, patterns emerge that you would never see otherwise. Test everything you receive against Scripture.

Each scripture link opens in a new tab — so you can read the passage and return here without losing your place in the session.
