A costly gift
A woman pours a jar of expensive perfume over Jesus — a year’s wages, gone in a moment. The room calls it waste. Jesus calls it beautiful, and says she is preparing Him for His burial. She understood what was coming before His friends did.
In the very next breath, one of the twelve goes to sell Him. Extravagant love and cold betrayal, side by side.
- The room saw waste; Jesus saw worship. What do you hold back from God for fear it is too much?
- She gave without being asked. What might it look like to give God something extravagant?
- Judas valued Jesus at a price. The woman valued Him beyond price. Which are you nearer to today?
